& Tracings
Thomas Gunn Navigation Services Ltd currently
supply a large number of shipowner and
ship managers with a regular notice to
mariner and tracings service. These updates
are available weekly but dispatched on
an agreed frequency using the preferred
carriage method as specified by the customer.
Admiralty Notice to Mariners
Admiralty Notices to Mariners are issued
as a weekly booklet by the UK Hydrographic
Office and give details of all corrections
to the Admiralty worldwide series of charts
and publications as well as reprints of
navigational warnings. These weekly Notices
to
Mariners are readily available from our
office.
These booklets are available in printed
form at a cost of £2.00 per week
or the information can be obtained in
electronic format (free of charge) from
the UKHO website - http://www.ukho.gov.uk/amd/noticeToMariners.asp
In addition to the Admiralty Notices,
we also stock US Notices to mariners issued
by the Defense Mapping Agency.
Chart Correction Tracings
This is an aid to the navigator or chart
corrector for the correction of British
Admiralty charts. They are issued weekly
with corresponding Notices to Mariners
and may be despatched either direct, or
to your office for onward routeing to
the vessel. Alternatively for customers
of the new edition service the goods can
be held in our office for inclusion in
consignments containing charts and publications.
Since 2001, Thomas Gunn Navigation Services
Ltd have been granted full approval of
the Executive Council of the Chart and
Nautical Instrument Trade Association
to re-produce weekly tracing wallets (£9.20
per wallet) for resale to its members
and to Shipowners and Ship Managers.
Although tracings have been in use by
the Royal Navy and Admiralty Chart Agents
for many years, it was the Chart Committee
of the Chart and Nautical Instrument Trade
Association that successfully negotiated
with the Hydrographer of the Navy for
them to become available to the merchant
marine navigator and private user.
The CNITA tracing overlay correction
service is available from all Admiralty
Chart Agents who are members of the Association,
and is now supplied to more than 5,000
vessels worldwide, each week. Navigating
Officers welcome the tracings system for
its accuracy and speed. Onboard chart
correction time can be cut by 80% and
Masters can now rest assured that their
charts are kept continually up to date.
We are also able to provide chart correction
tracings for US charts. As with the Admiralty
Chart Tracings these are supplied with
accompanying Notices to Mariners.
