C-MAP Norway AS is a provider of a global electronic chart service designed to meet the differing needs of both the occasional leisure user and merchant marine vessels operating on a world-wide basis.


C-MAP has the world’s largest commercially available database of over 20,000 chart files. These files are based on paper charts from Hydrographic Offices which are vectorised using DNV-approved production tools. At present, over 90 leading manufacturers of navigation systems can read and display the above chart data.


Thomas Gunn Navigation Services Ltd are in a position to supply all c-map products but specialise in the CM93 chart format which has been developed for the commercial market.

The CM-93 database is intended for use on advanced electronic charting and navigation systems such as ECDIS, with the processing and display power necessary to exploit the full potential of the dataset content and structure. CM-93 is also a suitable basis for use on vessel tracking systems, port VTS, military 3C and combat systems.

There are two formats of C-map vector charts under the CM/93 umbrella namely edition 2 and edition 3. Edition 2 has now been superseded by edition 3, however it is C-map’s policy to fully support existing edition 2 customers but they will not sell these charts to a new user.

One of the main benefits of Edition 3 charts is that the CM-93/3 charts may be updated by an automatic procedure based on electronic Notices to Mariners sent to the user via e-mail, Internet HTTP, Inmarsat, GSM mobile phone, etc. This process can be easily monitored by the user, but does not require manual intervention. This service has proven to be extremely reliable, safe and cost-effective.

Availability

C-Map charts are not available for purchase via our online store. However, they can be ordered from our office via e-mail or fax and are usually dispatched within 1-2 days. When the relevant chart cd’s are received onboard it is necessary for the vessel to generate a user code which is machine specific, when this is processed by our licensing software an authorisation code is generated to allow access to the permitted coverage.

All of the above quoted prices are for a subscription based licence which includes access to the charts for an annual period, access to the online updating service and supply of a quarterly update CD. Please note the charts can also be purchased on a one off basis.
