The main enhancements to the 2007 version include:

Although the new version of the program has been installed, the installer will not automatically overwrite existing 2006 data. To install the latest chart pack, ensure the 2007 chart pack is in the drive, select the Charts button, left-click on ‘Select’ and left-click on ‘Install Chart pack’

14. Can I export data from the Admiralty RYA Chart Plotter?

There are no import or export facilities built into the Navigational Package. It is not possible to import Waypoints or Routes from an external file.

A GPS signal can only be imported into the program to display a vessel position.

15. What is meant by ‘real time navigation’?

Real time navigation refers to the constantly updated position of your vessel displayed on the digital chart. As your vessel moves, the displayed position will be updated in ‘real time’. Your past track will also be displayed. Provided the application is set to ‘vessel fixed’ mode, the chart will pan behind the vessel, with the vessel remaining in the centre of the screen. This is achieved within the Admiralty RYA Chart Plotter by taking a GPS signal (from a compatible GPS device) and plotting the position, correctly adjusted to WGS84 datum (the GPS device must be set to WGS84 datum), on the displayed Admiralty chart. Please note that no other device inputs (wind, depth, etc) can be accepted by the application.

16. Why does the program on Edition 4 (2007) version no longer connects to the GPS at start-up?

An option has now been provided to allow the user to select when to connect to the GPS. To amend this option, select the Setup button, left-click on ‘GPS Settings’, select ‘GPS Start-up Mode’ and select the appropriate option from the drop-down. To connect to the GPS at any time, tick the ‘Connect to GPS’ box and select OK.

17. How do I know if my GPS is compatible with the Admiralty RYA Chart Plotter?

Your GPS must output NMEA 0183 format and must be capable of interfacing with either the PC’s serial port or a virtual COM port (if connecting via USB or BluetoothTM).

18. Can I connect the USB output from my GPS to the Chart Plotter?

The Chart Plotter has been written to connect via a serial port or a virtual COM port. The GPS should have been supplied with a Driver which should create a virtual COM port on the PC. To connect to the COM port select the Setup button, left-click on ‘GPS Settings’, select the appropriate COM Port number from the drop-down and select OK.

19. Can I connect my BluetoothTM GPS to the Chart Plotter?

The Chart Plotter will only connect via a serial port or a virtual COM port. The Bluetooth Manager should create a virtual COM port on the PC. To connect to the COM port select the Setup button, left-click on ‘GPS Settings’, select the appropriate COM Port number from the drop-down and select OK.
