1. Why are there 3 programs on this CD? - I only want to purchase one
|
 |
This is to reduce the number of CDs and licence keys required to simplify
provision, installation, licensing and updating. The 3 programs include
TotalTide, Admiralty Digital List if Lights and the new Admiralty Digital Radio
Signals Volume 6. This does not mean you have to buy all 3 products – you can
still pay for and access just the areas of the products you require. You may
access unlicensed products and view them in a demonstration only mode.
|
 |
2. Why do I only have one Start-Up Key when I have purchased 3 products?
|
 |
Only 1 key is required to unlock 1, 2 or all 3 products. Therefore, customers
are only issued with one Start-Up Key and, when requested, will only receive one
Activation Key as the ADP runs using a single licence and subscription period.
|
 |
3. Which Flag State has approved ADP as covering the carriage requirement?
|
 |
Please see the Flag State Approval table for this product.
|
 |
4. I already have TotalTide and ADLL installed, what will happen when I install
ADP?
|
 |
If you already have the 2006 version of TotalTide installed on your PC, when you
install the new ADP product the installer will ask if you want to replace the
current version - answer Yes. ADP will automatically be
installed. The existing TotalTide program will be replaced by the new version, a
new version of ADLL will be installed and the new ADRS6 product will also be
installed. When you run TotalTide initially you will be in ‘demo mode’. You will
need to install the new Start-Up Key and request a new Activation Key as shown
below.
If you also had a previous version of ADLL you should continue to use it until
your existing ADLL licence expires. The existing version can be identified by
the icon text Admiralty Digital List of Lights; the new version
can be identified by the icon text ADP – Admiralty Digital List of
Lights. When you want to renew your existing ADLL licence, the ADLL
areas you require should be added to your new ADP licence. Details on how to add
a new Product are shown below.
If you want to purchase the ADRS6 then this should also be added to your new ADP
licence. Details on how to add a new Product are shown below.
|
 |
5. What will happen when my existing ADLL expires? |
 |
If you had a previous version of ADLL you should continue to use it until your
existing ADLL licence expires. The existing version can be identified by the
icon text Admiralty Digital List of Lights; the new version can
be identified by the icon text ADP – Admiralty Digital List of
Lights. When you want to renew your existing ADLL licence, the ADLL
areas you require should be added to your new ADP licence. Details on how to add
a new Product are shown below. The existing version of ADLL should now be
removed from your computer by selecting Add/Remove Programs from the Control
Panel and highlighting List of Lights and selecting Remove.
|
 |
6. I installed ADP but only have access to the sample data? |
 |
You need to enter the Start-Up Key supplied by your Admiralty Distributor. If
the CD was supplied without a Start-Up Key, you should contact your Distributor
to purchase a Start-Up Key.
Select ‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Licence Key Wizard’
from the menu bar to display the Licence Key Wizard – New System screen. Select
Next to display the Licence Key Wizard – Add Key screen and enter the key
details. A useful tip is to always use Copy and Paste (Ctrl&C/Ctrl&V)
when entering key details. If an error has been made when entering the key the
Licence Key Wizard – Unable to add Keys screen will be displayed – if this
happens the key needs to be re-entered correctly. Select Next to display the Licence Key Wizard – Start-Up Key Only screen which
shows your current Start-Up Key expiry date.
If you wish to request an Activation Key now, select the appropriate button and
select Next (see below for details), if you wish to exit select
Close.
|
 |
7. I obtained a Start-Up Key for ADP but it expired before I installed the software
– how can I obtain an Activation Key? |
 |
The Start-Up Key can always be used to install ADP, even if the Key has expired.
However, the Start-Up Key will not allow you to display any information
beyond its 1 month expiry date and it will not allow you to apply any ADLL or
ADRS6 updates. You can obtain an Activation Key at any time after installing
ADP.
|
 |
8. How do I obtain an Activation Key by email? |
 |
Select ‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Licence Key
Wizard’ from the menu bar to display the Licence Key Wizard –
Start-Up Key Only screen. Select the Request an Activation
Key button and select Next. The Licence Key
Wizard – Main or Backup Computer screen is displayed showing your
computer name. Select the “MAIN” computer button and select
Next. The Licence Key Wizard – Create Activation Key
Request screen is displayed; select the email icon and this will
generate an email which is addressed to bundled.licences@ukho.gov.uk. In
the subject line there will be a string of letters and numbers beginning with
UKHOBLAKR…… Do not amend any of this - just click on the Send
button. You will receive an email back with details of your Activation Key.
|
 |
9. How do I install my Activation Key?
|
 |
Select ‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Licence Key
Wizard’ from the menu bar to display the Licence Key Wizard –
Start-Up Key Only screen. Select the Add an Activation
Key button and select Next to display the
Licence Key Wizard – Add Key screen and enter the key
details. A useful tip is to always use Copy and Paste (Ctrl&C/Ctrl&V)
when entering key details. If an error has been made when entering the key
the Licence Key Wizard – Unable to add Keys screen will be
displayed – if this happens the key needs to be re-entered correctly. If the key
still fails it may be because there has been a change to the hardware
configuration – see below for further details. Select Next
to display the Licence Key Wizard – Activated screen which
shows the Expiry Date, Licensed Products and Licensed Areas. Select
Close to finish.
When the Activation Key has been installed, update your Area Data Files (if ADLL
or ADRS6 has been licensed) using the Update Data Wizard and
the latest ADP Weekly Update CD – see below.
|
 |
10. The PC on which I am going to run ADP does not have email facilities. How can I
obtain my Activation Key? |
 |
Select ‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Licence Key
Wizard’ from the menu bar to display the Licence Key Wizard –
Create Activation Key Request screen. You can choose the option
Send the Request to your printer or Save the Request to
a simple text file. You can then manually type your Activation Key
request into the subject line of an email on another PC and send it to bundled.licences@ukho.gov.uk or
copy and paste it from a floppy disc into the subject line of an email and send
it. The Activation Key will be returned to the email address that sent in the
Activation Key Request. Alternatively you can send the Activation Key request
details to your Admiralty Distributor and ask them to submit the request on your
behalf.
|
 |
11. How do I obtain an Activation Key for my backup PC?
|
 |
Load the latest version of ADP onto your backup PC. Select ‘Start,
Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Licence Key Wizard’ from the
menu bar to use the Licence Key Wizard to insert your original
Start-Up Key and generate a new Activation Key request from this machine,
ensuring that the “BACKUP” computer button has been selected.
When the Activation Key has been installed, update your Area Data Files (if ADLL
or ADRS6 has been licensed) using the Update Data Wizard and
the latest ADP Weekly Update CD – see below.
|
 |
12. Can ADP be installed on a networked PC? |
 |
ADP may not be installed centrally on a network server. It can however be
installed on the local hard drive of a machine which is linked to a network. If
the PC is also a server, the programme cannot be accessed via a different PC
which has the server mapped as a drive. The software is ‘tied’ to the PC on
which it is loaded and can only be accessed on this machine.
|
 |
13. My computer has been replaced/upgraded, how do I re-install ADP?
|
 |
Load the latest version of ADP on your PC. Select ‘Start, Programs,
Admiralty Digital Publications, Licence Key Wizard’ from the menu bar
to use the Licence Key Wizard and insert your original Start-Up
Key and generate a new Activation Key request from this machine, ensuring that
the appropriate type “MAIN” or “BACKUP” computer has been selected to ensure the
correct key from the old computer is cancelled.
Under normal conditions, your request will be scrutinised and authorised within
a few minutes, and a replacement Activation Key automatically generated and
emailed back to you.
Occasionally, Activation Key requests may be refused by the UKHO – if this
happens you will need to contact either your Admiralty Distributor or the UKHO
Helpdesk – helpdesk@ukho.gov.uk
explaining the situation and enclosing either your Start-Up Key, Activation Key,
Update Key or User Permit and Computer Name.
When the new Activation Key has been installed, update your Area Data Files (if
ADLL or ADRS6 has been licensed) using the Update Data Wizard
and the latest ADP Weekly Update CD – see below.
|
 |
14. How do I update the ADLL and ADRS6 Area Data Files on my PC? |
 |
You can only update the Area Data Files on your PC once an Activation Key has
been installed.
If the program has been re-installed on a replacement PC or has been installed
on a backup PC and the Area Data Files are more than 6 months old, it is
recommended that you use the ADP Weekly Update CD to initially update your Area
Data Files.
Select ‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Data Updating Wizard’
from the menu bar or from either the ADLL or ADRS6 toolbar select File – Data
Updating Wizard to display the Data Updating Wizard – Welcome screen. You can
choose to either ‘Obtain updates from the UKHO’ or ‘Apply updates you’ve already
downloaded or received’.
Obtain update from the UKHO
a. Update automatically from the internet – select
Next then tick the area(s) to be updated and select
Next, when complete select Finish. Note – it
may be necessary to add the Admiralty Digital Products Licensing Wizard to your
internet security package to allow this option to work.
b. Send email to request update - select Next
then tick the area(s) to be updated and select Next. If Send
the email now is chosen select Finish. An email with the
subject line UKHOBLUR is created with details containing the update request – DO
NOT EDIT THIS EMAIL. The email will automatically be sent to bundled.updates@ukho.gov.uk. If
Store the request in a file to send later or to send from another
PC is chosen, select Next then in the Data
Updating Wizard – Store update request browse to a suitable location,
insert an appropriate file name and select Finish. The file can then be
transferred to another PC and attached to an email and sent to the email address
bundled.updates@ukho.co.uk with
a subject line of UKHOBLUR.
c. Connect to UKHO web site to manually download files – select
Next to go to http://updates.ukho.gov.uk. Select
‘Admiralty Digital List of Lights and Admiralty Digital Radio Signals
Volume 6’. Tick the Product(s) that you want to update then select the
appropriate week from the product(s) that you wish to update (Note - ensure that
the correct week has been selected as the update will fail if the wrong week has
been selected – see further Note below), select the area(s) to be updated, and
select submit update request. Select either individual area update files to
download or select a single file that contains all your updates, browse to
select a location and select save. Note that if a single file that contains all
your updates has been selected this will be supplied as a self extracting Zip
file. When the file has been transferred to the PC you must double-click on the
file name to extract the individual area update files which should then be used
individually as shown below.
Note: if an incorrect weekly update date has been supplied then the error ‘This
update file cannot be used because it does not follow on from your current data’
will be displayed when the data file is updated in option ‘e’ below.
Apply updates you’ve already downloaded or received.
d. Update from CD – insert the CD, browse to the correct CD
location and select Next, select Next to
install the updates then select Finish.
e. Update from file - select Next then browse
to the appropriate .buf file that has been sent by the UKHO or to the
appropriate .adllu or .rs6u file that has been obtained from the website (see
para c above). Select Next to install the updates then select
Finish.
f. Update from email - select Next, highlight
the appropriate email (ensure that it has been marked as unread), select
Next to install the updates then select
Finish.

15. My ADP program was working fine but now it displays the Licence Key Wizard –
Start-Up Key only screen. I have already inserted an Activation Key but I have a
message saying that the key cannot be decoded correctly. What should I do?
|
 |
When you generate an Activation Key request, this captures hardware details
about the host PC which locks the Activation Key to the PC. If you have made any
changes to your hardware or changed your PC since the generation of your
Activation Key request, this will invalidate your Activation Key. Select
‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Licence Key
Wizard’ to generate a new Activation Key request from this machine,
ensuring that the relevant “MAIN” or “BACKUP” computer button has been
selected.
Helpdesk – helpdesk@ukho.gov.uk explaining the situation and enclosing either
your Start-Up Key, Activation Key, Update Key or User Permit and Computer
Name.
If you are running a “MAIN” and a “BACKUP” system, ensure that the correct key
is used on the correct PC.
|
 |
16. How do I add extra Products and/or Area Data Files to my Licence? |

You need to supply your Admiralty Distributor with your User Permit number and
they will arrange this for you. On either your “MAIN” or “BACKUP” system select
‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Licence Key
Wizard’ and select Add Areas/Renew Licence and select
Next. The Licence Key Wizard – User Permit
screen is displayed which contains your User Permit, Expiry Date, Products and
Current Areas. Select Next to display the Licence Key
Wizard – Export User Permit with the options to copy to clipboard,
print or save to a simple text file.
Provide your Distributor with the User Permit and the Products and/or Areas that
you wish to add. Your Distributor will supply you with an Update Key. Note that
separate Update Keys will be supplied for both the “MAIN” and the “BACKUP”
systems. If you are adding ADLL or ADRS6 you will also receive the latest ADP
Weekly Update CD.
To enter the Update Key select ‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital
Publications, Licence Key Wizard’ then select Add another
Key and select Next. A useful tip is to always use
Copy and Paste (Ctrl&C/Ctrl&V) when inserting Keys.

19. I have lost access to my ADLL/ADRS6 data – I have an error message ‘Unable to
access a file correctly - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Chersoft\List of Lights\...\areas1and2.adll was not found’ or ‘Unable to
open file - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application

|
 |
The update process has failed at some stage. In order to recover the situation
it will be necessary to update using an ADP Weekly Update CD as shown above.
Note that it is also possible to use the original installation CD to re-install
the original data (correct to WK46/06). Insert the CD and cancel any auto
install. Select ‘Start, Programs, Admiralty Digital Publications, Data
Updating Wizard’ from the menu bar or from either the
ADLL or ADRS6 toolbar select File –
Data Updating Wizard to display the Data Updating Wizard –
Welcome screen. Select Apply updates you’ve already downloaded
or received then select Update from CD. Browse and
select the data folder on the CD and select
Next to install the updates then select
Finish.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, create a Support Text, as shown below, and

23. Why can’t I apply ADP Updates I received via ChartCo service? |
 |
If updates have been applied using the ChartCo Service and the error message
‘This update file cannot be used because it does not follow on from your current
data.’ is displayed you will need to update your system via one of the UKHO
Update options using the Data Updating Wizard.
Unlike the ADP updates, ChartCo updates are not cumulative and have to be
applied on a weekly basis. To correct the problem, update your ADP using one of
the methods described above and then continue to use the ChartCo Service on a
weekly basis.
|
 |
24. How do I send the UKHO Helpdesk a Support Text? |
 |
From the toolbar select Help - About … - Support. You will be
given a choice of: send an email; save in text file; print the message or copy
the message to the clipboard. If possible select the first option. This will
generate an email which gives a full listing of the registry settings. Forward
the email to the UKHO Helpdesk – helpdesk@ukho.gov.uk with a full
description of your problem and they will advise further.

 |
25. I am using TotalTide from within my ECDIS and the 2007 version no longer works.
How can I resolve this? |
 |
There is a known ADP/TotalTide installation problem when TotalTide is used in
conjunction with an ECDIS. The problem results in the 2007 version of TotalTide
failing to communicate with the ECDIS. To resolve the problem a patch
installer has been made available which can be downloaded from the links shown
below. Please ensure that the correct patch is selected – if in doubt as to
which version of TotalTide has been installed, run TotalTide and select Help –
About Admiralty TotalTide and note the version number.
To install the
patch, double-click on the zip file and save the resulting files to a specified
location (i.e. desktop). Scroll to this location and double-click on the Windows
Installer Patch file (ADP_6_1_0_0.msp or TT_Fleet_6_1_1_0.msp)
and follow the on-screen instructions.
Version numbers of TotalTide will
be updated to reflect the appropriate patch file used.
Please ensure that
the correct patch is selected – if in doubt as to which version of TotalTide has
been installed, run TotalTide and select Help – About Admiralty TotalTide and
note the version number. If the version number is 6.0.0.18 install patch
‘ADP_6.1.0.0’; if the version number is 6.0.1.17 install patch
‘TT_Fleet_6.1.1.0.’
